Coal brown eyes took in the enclosed area of the park. Not a single person --child or adult-- was to be seen in the area. Well, except for Isuzu Rin Sohma, who stood just beyond the white picket fence on the sidewalk. Her dark eyes wandered over the slight details of the enclosement: the slide and hanging bars off to one side, the swing sets to their left, and the toddler pen to the far right. A light breeze ruffled her short, black hair and blew some strands in front of her face, and she rose an arm to push them back behind her ear.

The scent of precipitation mixed with pinecones filled the park at the late hour of dusk, and the sun cast a rosy glow on the horizon as it prepared to set. Rin could almost sense the moon just beyond the fields of grass, waiting for its chance to light up the soon-to-be dark night sky.

The lithe girl creaked open the gate to the park, and it swung open eerily. She stepped through it and walked across the wet grass to the small set of swings that was located off to the side. It had just rained, she could tell because of the dampness of the wooden swings and because of the drops of water that lined the rows of plants and trees. She lifted herself onto the wooden plank that had been attached to hefty ropes to form a swing, but she didn't swing her legs back and forth to accelerate. Instead, she sat in silence on the swing.

Her eyes held a blank expression, and her face mirrored them. Her gaze pierced through the mist that crept through the evening park, boring holes into the rough bark of the tree straight ahead a few yards. It was darkening rather quickly, and the night would approach quickly, the darkness creeping up on the setting sun like a predator out to consume the prey. And soon, the moon would rise in place of the sun, until dawn when day would once again reign supreme. Turning her dark eyes upwards with a sigh, Rin stared lazily into the twilight sky.
